John
was driving home from the station in his car yesterday evening when he had an
accident. He was driving along a train road at 50 kilometres an hour
when another car came out of a side road and hit him. There was a
lot of damage to both cars, and both John and the other man were
hurt. One of John's arms was broken, and the other man had a bad cut
on his head.
Another car was following John's. It stopped quickly and a man and a
woman got out of it. They ran to the damaged cars and pulled John
and the other man out of the cars because they thought, "Perhaps the
petrol in these cars will catch fire and burn the two men."
The man and the woman had some cotton-wool and bandages in their car, so they
put them around the cuts on John's arm and the other man's
head. Then they made a telephone call to a doctor and the
police. Soon an ambulance arrived and took the two men to
hospital. Then two policemen arrived too and began to measure
things. A truck came and pulled the two cars off the road.
